There was plenty to celebrate this May in and around Rosscarbery.  We had the inaugural Rosscarbery Surf Turf n’Tar where over 400 people participated in this new unique, multi terrain race offering participants two distances... a 10k and Half Marathon. All our runners loved the scenic route down by the sea, through forests and over nature trails. Back in the hotel there was an array of local produce to revitalise our runners. We had Rosscarbery Recipes, The Fresh Fish Deli, Bushby’s Strawberries with Clóna Cream, Dubliner Cheese and Coolmore Cakes while Fuinniúil, our local trad band, were on hand to rejuvenate the spirits. Many participants availed of the hotel swimming pool and leisure centre to warm down and soothe all those tired limbs, there were even Physios on site to massage away any aches or pains. Thanks so much to all those involved for organising this great race. Here's to doing it all again next year!

Well done all and congratulations Skibbereen Rowing Club for bringing home medals from the European Rowing Championships in the Czech Republic. It was a wonderful month for Irish and West Cork Rowing. Hats off - Shane, Mark, Denise, Gary & Paul and all your background team members. You have given the whole region a lift and sown seeds of inspiration for the youth of West Cork that anything is possible with hard work, talent, and confidence.

We also celebrated three amazing individuals who are ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their West Cork communities. The Celtic Ross Hotel along with the Southern Star, were honoured to present Brendan O'Brien, Skibbereen, Tommy Jermyn, Goleen and Michael Sugrue, Bantry with their West Cork Hero Awards. Congratulations to you all! #WestCorkHeroAwards has been an inspiration to all of us and we look forward to honouring more of our everyday heroes over the coming months.

Let’s see what June brings! I will keep you updated on what’s happening in and around beautiful Rosscarbery, one of Ireland’s oldest and most historic towns.

All the best,

Sherna
