Girls Having Fun raises funds for Action Breast Cancer
The annual Girls Just Wanna Have Fun weekend in aid of Action Breast Cancer took place at the Celtic Ross Hotel West Cork during October. The event has been taking place since 2008 and nearly €22,000 has been raised for Action Breast Cancer over the four years. This year, in 2011, €8,000 was raised.
Women from all over Ireland attended the weekend with their family and friends including many who are recovering from breast cancer. All the funds raised during the weekend will go towards the vital development of services at Action Breast Cancer providing free help and support for anyone concerned about breast health or going through a breast cancer journey.
Helen Wycherley of the Celtic Ross Hotel was delighted the weekend was such a success “€8,000 was raised for Action Breast Cancer bringing our fundraising total to €21,700 over the last four years. The weekend was fantastic. Women attended with their daughters, their friends, their sisters and had an amazing weekend spending fun time together. We were delighted with the support of the women, we couldn’t host the weekend without them.”
Actress Sorcha Furlong, who plays Orla Kirwan in Fair City, attended the weekend with her mum and sister. Sorcha lent her support to the weekend as she believes cancer awareness is key. Like many others she has had friends whose mums have both survived and passed away from breast cancer.
Big plans are already underway for next year’s event which will be the 5th year of the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun weekend and takes place from the 12th – 14th October 2012. Bookings are now being taken with 50% of the rooms already reserved! Contact the hotel for further details.
Helen Wycherley presented a cheque for €8,000 to Rose O’Dea Community Fundraiser Irish Cancer Society.
