Skibbereen Women Wins West Cork Over 60s Talent Competition
Sheila O’Regan from Skibbereen is the inaugural winner of the West Cork Heat of the ever popular Over 60s Talent Competition! Sheila sang in front of a large crowd of over 100 people at the Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery recently.
There were 8 contestants who performed on the night coming from Kinsale, Rosscarbery, Skibbereen, Leap and Enniskeane. While the competition was stiff it was Sheila’s performance of an Irish song Suil a Roon that impressed the judges the most. Sheila will now go forward into the semi final on the 14th April in City Hall.
The Over 60’s Talent competition is organised by Paddy O’Brien and it is now in its 37th year and is the biggest social event in Cork and Ireland for Senior Citizens. There is no other competition like it outside of Cork. Money is raised for the Irish Heart Foundation through ticket sales from the semi final and final nights. To date the competition has raised €417,000 for the charity.
