From Móin Rua to Mullach Méise: A West Cork Hiking Weekend at the Celtic Ross Hotel

At the edge of West Cork, where the Atlantic breathes against ancient cliffs and quiet valleys hold centuries of story, a different kind of weekend unfolds one shaped by movement, by landscape, and by a gentle return to what matters. On the 30th of May, we have created a specially designed walking package, inviting you to explore this extraordinary coastline and countryside in the company of Conor from Gormú.

Day One

Clifftops, Salt Air & a Warm Welcome

Your journey begins at the Coastguard Station on Toe Head, where you step out onto a guided clifftop path with the sea stretching wide and wild beside you. Over ten unhurried kilometres, you pass a solitary Napoleonic-era Signal Tower that has watched this coastline for centuries one of the many quietly remarkable features of the Wild Atlantic Way that surrounds us here in West Cork.

The air is salt-rich, the pace easy, and by afternoon you are welcomed with fresh coffee and homemade cookies before arriving at the Celtic Ross Hotel. The evening is yours to settle in a drink in the Library Bar, followed by a Kingfisher Bistro dinner of locally sourced, thoughtfully prepared food that offers warmth and grounding as the day fades. We work with the finest producers West Cork has to offer, and evenings here have a way of lingering pleasantly.

Day Two

St. Finbarr's Way, Bantry Bay & the River Ilen

Morning comes softly with breakfast at the hotel before you leave for the quiet beauty of Mealagh Valley, following the ancient line of St. Finbarr's Way toward Drimoleague. Stories rise naturally from the land along this historic pilgrimage route, and the path gradually softens underfoot as it opens out toward Mullach Méise.

Along the way, a carefully prepared lunch waits in a spot chosen not just for rest, but for wonder overlooking the wide, shimmering expanse of Bantry Bay, inviting you to pause, breathe, and simply be present in this extraordinary corner of West Cork.

By afternoon, the journey resolves in Drimoleague with an experience that lingers long after: the deep, enveloping heat of a tent sauna, the sharp clarity of a dip in the River Ilen for those who wish, and the simple pleasure of sweet tea, Glenilen yogurt, and fresh fruit shared in good company. Then, as gently as it began, the weekend draws to a close with a return transfer leaving you not just with distance covered, but with a sense of space, calm, and quiet connection to this place.
