People of Rosscarbery- Pascal and Mary Rose of O’Brien’s Bar

People of Rosscarbery- Pascal and Mary Rose of O’Brien’s Bar

15/04/2020 | People of Rosscarbery

Next up as our “People of Ross” are Pascal and Mary Rose of O’Brien’s Bar, though it is really known as “Pascal’s”. That might be doing the wonderful Mary Rose a disservice mind 😉 – they are very much a team.

The pub had a full refurb in 2013 from top to bottom but kept the original shopfront and very much kept the feeling of being a home from home......

Inside it has a lovely welcoming stone fire place, where you are encouraged to help yourself to throw a few logs on!!!! There’s never any problem.

There is live music every Saturday night all year round and the Sunday trad session in the evening throughout the summer, normally from around 6:30-8:30pm. When at all possible these are outdoor sessions on the square and very popular with both locals and visitors alike.

Pascal is a great community man, a driving force with others behind many events, such as the much loved and very successful June weekend music festival. This festival ran for years and saw bands such as Aslan, Paddy Casey and the Hot House Flowers grace the square.

Pascal was a member of the committee that organised the beautiful monument in the square to commemorate our three local patriots who have huge national historic significance, Michael Collins, Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa and Tom Barry.

In 2018 Pascal and Mary Rose threw a big bash celebrating 30 years in business, a monumental weekend where the parish celebrated with them!

Great supporters of the Celtic Ross, Mary Rose is a regular for morning coffee and both regularly pop in for a pre-work supper before heading back up the road to look after their guests🙏

One wedding couple who were with us for 3 days during their celebrations took a walk to soak up the post wedding atmosphere and popped into Pascal’s. After a bit of chitchat Pascal figured that they were married the day before and promptly called them a drink to say congratulations. This couple were visibly moved when telling this story to us at the end of their wedding weekend. A story they will no doubt tell for years to come.

As a family Pascal, Mary Rose and their two sons John and Aaron together with their MUCH LOVED STAFF Michael (Michael wrote that bit🤣😉) will guarantee that your visit to O’Brien’s Bar will be both welcoming and enjoyable.

Another great reason to come off the N71 at Rosscarbery or to take a stroll up the road from the hotel.
