Recognising Outstanding Local Achievement - The West Cork Sports Star awards

This is the 26th Year of the West Cork Sports Star Awards.  Each year we are amazed by the outstanding sports people we meet here in the locality. We are delighted to have the opportunity to recognise their achievements and dedication throughout the year through the Celtic Ross connection with the West Cork Sports Star Awards.

Nominations for the Senior monthly awards, the Paudie Palmer Youth Award and Hall of Fame Award for the Celtic Ross Hotel West Cork Sports Star are now open! The Celtic Ross Hotel West Cork Sports Star Awards are run in conjunction with The Southern Star and C103 Cork since 1998. Each month, a sports person who has excelled in their chosen field is presented with the monthly Sports Star Award. At the end of the year, usually in January, a Gala Banquet with Special Guests is held where the Celtic Ross Hotel West Cork Sports Star Annual Award winner is announced.

The West Cork Youth Award is awarded on a quarterly basis to young people aged 14 – 18. Those eligible must be born in the years 2005 to 2009 inclusive and evidence of birth must be provided. The overall Paudie Palmer 2023 youth award winner for the year will be chosen from the quarterly winners and will be announced in December 2023. The annual youth winner will be formally presented with the award at the annual awards ceremony gala banquet.

The Hall of Fame Award will be presented to a sports person in recognition of his or her past achievements which will pre-date the start of the Celtic Ross Hotel West Cork Sports Star award in March 1998. The winner of this award will be announced in the autumn and will be formally presented with the award at the annual awards ceremony gala banquet.

The Sports Club of the Year and Team of the Year are presented to a Club and a Team recognising their achievements in sport during 2023. These are two separate awards. The winner of these awards will be announced in the winter and they will be formally presented with their award at the annual awards ceremony gala banquet.

The 2023 Annual Awards Banquet with guest speaker will take place in January 2024. The overall winner for 2023 will be announced on the night. Tickets will be available from the end December 2023.  January 2024 will mark a special milestone as we celebrate 26 Years of the West Cork Sports Star Awards on this night. 

Year after year, we are in awe at the standard of Sports Star coming out of West Cork.  We have honoured Olympians, World Champions, All Ireland Champions, All Stars, Irish Internationalists…… all routed in West Cork.  However, the most important thing is all nominees are recognised, first and foremost, in their own parish and community.  That is the magic of these great awards!
